10th Anniversary

Carlos Gonzales, guest

The Ventura County Classical Guitar Society ( http://vccgs.com ) held its 10th anniversary meeting on August 27, 2008.  Our last-Wednesday-of-the-month meeting was held in the Senior Center of the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Parks Center located at 1605 East Burnley in Camarillo, California.

Gail and Terry DeWolfe compiled an impressive program brochure which lists many past guest performers.  The brochure (see the last two photos in the slideshow) acknowledges the support of the many people and organizations that it takes to make this Society work.  We appreciate all of these contributors.

The audience numbered about 95.  Opening performances from the floor included...

        Gail DeWolfe and Jean Disilets:

        Mark Carlile:  Cadiz, by Albeniz

Don Abbott:  Milonga, by Jorge Cardosa

Andre van Meulebrouck:  Choro, by Villalobos

Hank Wadsworth:  Gentle Waves, by Hank Wadsworth (Dream Tiger)

Following intermission, Carlos Gonzales - central to helping the Society to organize 10 years ago - was introduced as our special guest.

In addition to teaching many private students, Carlos teaches classical guitar at Ventura, Oxnard and St. Thomas Aquinas Colleges.  Most of our regular members have taken lessons from Carlos at some point in time.  Carlos performed works by Sor and other traditional guitar composers.  He fielded questions from the audience.

Photos from the evening are below and on an accompanying page.  Click the window to open the slide show.  (Jan Wissmuller, our audio expert, and his wife Dorothy have moved to the East Coast.  Regrettably, we have no audio MP3s.  We will miss Jan and his wife.)

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 7PM.  As always, our meetings are open to the public and admission is free.
